Hoistway Screening - OSHA requires the installation of screening between adjacent elevator hoistways to protect workers from injury. Pearlweave netting, when installed vertically inside elevator hoistways, provides the equivalent protection to that of wire mesh. It replaces screening behind traveling cables, protects counterweight frames and most importantly, protects workers, working inside of one hoistway, from "straying into" the adjacent hoistway or area between counterweight rails, thereby preventing serious injury and even loss of life.
